"Just as Christ lived a life of unconditional service, we too this Easter must be inspired to lives of dedication for the benefit of our fellow citizens.
"In giving ourselves we would have fulfilled this message of Easter, to make love active in our lives and be transformed," said Persad-Bissessar in an Easter message.
The leader of the United National Congress (UNC) noted that in many communities in the country today "the value for human life is being depreciated", particularly with regard to respect and care for the elderly.
"Easter gives us an opportunity to rise in our practice of spirituality by choosing to do at least one good deed that represents one of the values taught to us by Christ.
"Religion must come alive through our actions, by making the value of love active through our lives," she said.
"Easter is a time for reflection and it challenges us to do our best, by making the personal sacrifices that would be beneficial to our communities and our country," Persad-Bissessar said.
"The joy of Easter lies in the news of the resurrection of Christ. How much has the world changed since then?
"We are still faced with man’s inhumanity to man and leadership of societies that are self serving. We must continue with discipline and a Christ-like sacrifice to continue to work to make our people happy and joyous.
"May this Easter give to us that power."
