Daniel was 45. He passed away Wednesday at the Eric Williams Medical Science complex at Mount Hope. His cause of his death has not been disclosed.
In a media release she said, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of one of our stalwarts...I know how difficult this time must be for his family, friends and by extension the country. During this time, I share in your grief and send you my love and prayers."
The UNC leader described Daniel as "a kind, courageous, gentle soul" who would do anything to help someone in need.
"Mr. Daniel was an inspiration to all he met. Everyone in this country would remember Mr. Daniel when he fought 2007, from his wheelchair, for violating his constitutional right to liberty and won a victory for the disabled people of this country.
"Mr. Daniel will also be remembered for his 116-day protest in 2003 outside the National Flour Mill, to get that company to change its hiring practices. The protest stemmed from the NFM’s denial to employ two disabled people.
"During his lifetime, Mr. Daniel led demonstrations throughout the country, demanding better and more accessible buildings and facilities for the disabled.
"You, Mr. Daniel, are in our thoughts and prayers.
"On behalf of my own family and all the members of the United National Congress, I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family of Mr. Daniel," she wrote.
