Caroni Central MP Dr Hamza Rafeeq is expected to return to the House of Representatives Friday for the first time since the change of leadership in the United National Congress (UNC).
The former Chief Whip had been ill since the UNC's January internal election and was a candidate on the Panday team. Rafeeq was on leave until march 12 due to “stress-related” and other health issues.
A spokesman for his Caroni Central constituency told local media earlier this week that Rafeeq is better and "should be back in the House on Friday."
Rafeeq missed the drama in his party that saw a divided caucus eventually agreeing to support the new leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar and remove former leader Basdeo Panday as opposition leader.
Panday subsequently refused the party's invitation to sit in the front bench with Persad-Bissessar and Chief Whip Jack Warner and chose instead to go to the bench bench.
During his "battle" in the House to remove Panday from the opposition leader's position, Rafeeq remained silent. it is not clear whether he would support the party or if he would keep a distance like Panday and his colleague, Kelvin Ramnath.
Opposition motions listed for debate Friday include a call on Prime Minister Patrick Manning if government is offering any financial help for the construction of a controversial church in Arima and a call for all members of the UDeCOTT board to resign.

what is there to be clear about, look, could someone tell these idiots that they represent the people who put them there, and the people elected a new leader, not them, so they no choice, they either support or get the hell out. Sorry for being so harsh, but these people getting me damn vex, what really going on in this blinking place.
