Kamla Persad-Bissessar said Monday President Max Richards did not properly consult her with regard to the appointment of members of the new Integrity Commission.
The Constitution requires consultation with both the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
Persad-Bissessar told Newsday she was merely advised about the appointment of one of the commissioners last Friday morning after the appointments were made.
The President’s letter was signed by his secretary and addressed to Persad-Bissessar’s executive assistant.
It stated, "I am directed by His Excellency to inform you that the fifth person to be appointed to the Integrity Commission is Mr Seunarine Jokhoo...Will you please bring this to the attention of the Leader of the Opposition?”
Persad-Bissessar told the paper the president did not consult her on the other appointments.
However, she said she welcomes the new Commission.
