Letter: Did Panday know about Hart's resignation?

A motion of urgent national importance is moved in the House of Representatives to debate the removal of Calder Hart from the UDECOTT Board.

The Speaker of the House in an unusual move agrees that the motion is one of urgent importance.

The debate on the motion is defeated however, as Basdeo Panday shockingly refuses to tow his party's line in giving the required majority and effectively supports he PNM. Calder Hart seemingly escapes.

Less than twenty four hours after the Panday shocker however, Calder Hart resigns.

What was the real reason behind Panday's refusal to support the debate on the motion?

Panday himself has said that he did not know of the motion and that he was not consulted.

But he himself has been quoted in the media as saying that he would not attend sessions of the UNC Parliamentary caucus as he did not see his presence as serving any useful purpose.

If he refuses to attend, then how can he be au courant with the UNC's Parliamentary agenda?

His reasoning therefore lacks common sense and betrays logic.

The question therefore, is whether Panday had prior knowledge into Calder Hart's pending resignation or that Hart had been instructed to resign.

Did this prior knowledge of the resignation encourage him to deflating Kamla Persad Bissessar's motion? Did Panday deduce that to support the debate and then have Hart resign would have been to inflate Persad Bissessar's political currency?

Did he think that with Hart's resignation following the motion, the perception would have been that it was Bissessar who brought Hart to his knees?

Did Panday therefore deliberately sidestep the motion to ensure that Persad Bissessar did not emerge as the winner and without adding political points to her quickly expanding political appeal?

The hope is that one day, the truth would eventually emerge.
