Go after Hart, freeze his assets: Ramesh

Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj said Sunday the Government of Trinidad and Tobago should have frozen the assets of Calder Hart, the chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of T&T, (UDeCOTT), who quit suddenly on Saturday and left the country.

The former attorney general was speaking at a meeting of the Movement to Stop The Rapid Rail at the office of his Parliamentary colleague, Vasant Bharath.

Maharaj suggested that the Manning administration appears to be prepared to cover-up the misdeeds of UDeCOTT, adding that
the Government is using its power to suppress vital information from the public.

“Government deliberately refused to conduct any investigation into UDeCOTT. Government should have been able to stop any money and get an order from the court to freeze all assets so that the money can go back to the people if evidence of corruption was found," he said.

Maharaj is the person who first drew a family connection between Hart and ditrectors of the CH Development, which won lucrative government contracts. Hart had denied the links to CH officials.

Prime Minister Patrick Manning had always defended the UDeCOTT boss. He evehn fired cabinet Minister Dr Keith Rowley after Rowley challenged Hart about developments plans for the Performing Arts Centre in Port of Spain.

The Tabaquite MP noted that since 2008 the State should have taken steps to confiscate Hart’s property and other assets.

"Prime Minister Patrick Manning has done nothing but defend Calder Hart. What should have happened was there should have been a list of assets of Calder Hart, not only him but his family’s and all the members of the Board of Udecott,” he said.

Maharaj
said it is not too late get the required information on Hart’s finances because of the Mutual Legal Assistance Act with the United States.

You people are shameless, and you want to lead me, forget that shit. I am beginning to believe everything that has been said about your past sir.
