COP demands halt to UDeCOTT projects, dimissal of Calder Hart

The Congress of the People (COP) wants to know why Trinidad and Tobago authorities are not acting in the public interest with regard to the latest information showing family links between Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) chairman Calder Hart and a firm that won a multi-million dollar Government contract.

COP Deputy Political Leader Prakash Ramadhar told reporters Thursday it is a simple matter to get the information showing the links.

And he wondered why authorities have not placed in the public domain, documents establishing family links.

COP released information to the media that it was able to get through a Malaysian law firm. Ramadhar told reporters the documents are authentic because they bear official stamps.

The documents show that Lee Hup Seng and Ng Chin Poh, directors of CH Development and Construction Ltd., are the brother and brother-in-law respectively of Hart’s wife, Sherrine Lee Hart.

Hart awarded a contract to CH in his capacity as UDeCOTT chairman, but has always denied a family link with CH.

Ramadhar suggested that Hart may have committed perjury before the Uff Commission of Enquiry into UDeCOTT and the construction sector, and added that Prime Minister Patrick Manning should immediately fire Hart as UDeCOTT chairman.

"The Prime Minister has responsibility to this country, not to a friend, not to a person who is invited to a political convention to sit in the front row," Ramadhar said in reference to Hart.

He also demanded a halt to UDeCOTT projects until the matter is resolved.
He said UDeCOTT and other special purpose companies should be investigated. He also suggested they were created for corruption since they are not subject to cabinet oversight.

COP leader Winston Dookeran called for a criminal and forensic investigation into the matter and of all UDeCOTT projects, and he appealed to President max Richards to immediately appoint a new Integrity Commission.
