The former COP candidate made his first appearance on a platform of the opposition United National Congress (UNC) since he left the party and joined the Congress of the People (COP). He ran as the COP candidate in Tabaquite but was defeated by Ramesh L. maharaj.
Maharaj did not attend the meeting in the Tabaquite constituency. He said he didn't feel welcome. "It is clear to me Mr (Jack) Warner planned this meeting in a way in which they did not want my participation.” Maharaj claimed in an interview with the Trinidad Guardian.
Ramlogan endorsed UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar as the country' "next prime minister" and she welcomed him back "home".
Ramlogan told supporters there is room for only two parties in the politics of Trinidad and Tobago and noted that the UNC is the second party.
“There is no room in T&T for a third party, the politics dictate, and removing the PNM requires that we all join hands and come on the big ship of the UNC and put our paddles together,” he said.
Ramlogan said COP is no longer a political force and called on COP leader Winston Dookeran to return to the UNC. He said his former leader is not up to the task of capturing the popular vote and exciting voters.
“Winston is a decent man, Winston is an honourable man. I will not regret the decisions I made in the past….I see a fighter in Kamla, I see a nice fella in Winston, but he’s no fighter,” Ramlogan said.
At the same meeting Oropouche MP Dr Roodal Moonilal called for former UNC leader Basdeo Panday and Couva South MP to be disciplined for the refusal to support the party last Friday in a motion to debate UDeCOTT. Both men abstained and the opposition motion was defeated."That was treachery and betrayal to the UNC. Whatever personal feelings you have, just go behind closed doors and quarrel. We took an oath to do so," he said.
