Anand Ramlogan returns to UNC platform

Prominent San Fernando lawyer Anand Ramlogan is returning to the platform of the United National Congress (UNC).

Ramlogan ran as a candidate of the Congress of the People (COP) in the 2007 against Ramesh L. Maharaj in the Tabaquite constituency in what was one of the most keenly contestesed seats in the election.

Maharaj won with 7,213 votes. Ramlogan got 5,666 and the PNM candidate, Heeralal Rampartp was just behind with 5,464.

Ramlogan had always been a staunch supporter of the UNC but defected to the COP because of disagreements with the then leader, Basdeo Panday.

Speaking in a talk show on Radio 106.1fm Monday morning, Ramlogan said he supports the new UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar and believes that she can lead a united oppoistion to defeat the People's National Movement (PNM) in a general election.

He said many COP members who had left the UNC because of Panday are returning to the UNC now that it has a new leader who is committed to taking the party forward.

ANAND RAMLOGAN: JUVENILE POLITICIAN‏

“And the Goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a Land not inhabited” – Leviticus 16:22

Scapegoating is a political strategy that is employed to avoid taking blame and cause others to be viewed with distrust. Since the appointment of Chief Whip the UNC has had to endure regular public shame, and all kinds of red herrings are being projected into the public domain to divert attention.

Last Friday a Motion was brought before the House by the Leader of the Opposition. This motion ought to only be brought before the House once the Chief Whip could guarantee the votes necessary for it to be upheld. As the Chief Whip is now being isolated he could not guarantee it's success and ought to so advise the Leader of the Opposition. But the journalists never reported this.

And so, continuing in this vein we all heard this morning on radio of another diversion. An ebullient Anand Ramlogan was extolling the virtues of Kamla and this "new wave" like if the Berlin Wall is crumbling. Here was inexperience, conceit, immaturity and more all rolling at his feet.

Anand Ramlogan is a very successful lawyer but his rant this morning showed him to be a juvenile without political instinct. His pronouncements revealed a very selfish individual who is putting himself above his party and willing to froghop on invitation. Nizam Mohammed called in immediately and hit the nail squarely on its head; and if Anand valued integrity he would have immediately rebutted Nizam's comments.

The Mirror newspaper last week reported that Anand had turned down a Senatorial appointment. He never denied this. If he did turn down an appointment to the Senate what therefore was proffered to him to consider that Kamla was the best thing in the country ? After all during the party's internal elections he did say that Ramesh Maharaj had paid his dues. What has caused this change ? What has Anand Ramlogan done since losing the 2007 elections in Tabaquite ? This is the question that Nizam Mohammed asked.

Basdeo Panday wanted Anand Ramlogan to defeat Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj in 2007 but he failed the test. These opportunities come only once in a lifetime.

One of the reasons may have to do with a confession that he made on the campaign platform that year. That confession is so gruesome that the population saw the cringe on Cherise Dabadie's face after the clip of Anand was aired. That single indiscretion displayed for the entire world to see how unrefined and dotish this young man behaved during that campaign. Gerry Yetming said the day after he had a chat with him. Too late, the damage was massive and may have dealt the killer blow to the COP in that elections.

I have my own suspicions, and I am not taking his word that he was invited by Kamla. My instinct tells me that it is the "hand in the glove" that is at work.

Is Anand Ramlogan destroying himself ?
