The Political Leader of the United National Congress (UNC) will lead a delegation of MPs Monday to a meeting with the Executive of the Public Service Association (PSA) to continue discussions on a common approach to fighting the proposed Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority (TTRA) Bill.
Both sides met Friday for initial discussions.
In a media statement Sunday, UNC Chairman Jack Warner called the proposed legislation autocratic, adding that it is an attempt to deflect public attention from the major issues of the day.
"Crime, poverty, inflation and WASA's mismanagement remain unsolvable and beyond the grip of the PNM, so their political manoeuvring dictates a diversion in the form of the replacement of the Board of Inland Revenue," he said.
Warner said the government has denied the PSA its right to advance any substantial proposal on the Bill.
"As such, the Opposition UNC shall advocate its position in the public's interest...(and) ensure that the voice of the workers on this important issue is heard," he said.
The Chaguanas West MP said Monday's meeting would effectively add to the substance of the debate on the Revenue Authority Bill on Wednesday.
The UNC chairman also announced that the party will begin is "Meet the Constituents Tour" on Monday with a meeting at the Chandernagore Presbyterian School in the Couva North constituency, currently held by Basdeo Panday.
"These meetings are intended to be an ongoing exercise as we seek to construct the bridge between the people and the leadership. It is our answer to the call to bring people closer to governance," Warner said.
He added, "The UNC remains committed to its goals and objectives," adding that "Our individual and collective efforts are required as we engage in meaningful transformation of a nation depressed."
