Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner plans to meet farmers Monday to discuss their concerns about the impact of the planned Rapid Rail project on their liveliehoods.
The farmers and people who live in Cunupia are planning a meeting to discuss the project which threatens to move them from the agricultural and residential lands they have owned for decades. And they have invited Warner to address the meeting.
The parliamentary representative for the area, Dr Tim Gopeesingh, is also expected to speak at the meeting.
The Rapid Rail route passes through prime agricultural lands and landowners are upset that the government is already conducting soil sampling on their properties without their consent.
The government is planning to run the North-South line through some of the country's most productive agricultural land in central Trinidad, including Aranjuez and the Cunupia areas.
Tabaquite MP Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj has taken up the matter and has promised to fight to protect the interests of farmers and is happy that Warner is also getting involved.
