Jack Warner spoke with the media Sunday night shortly after unofficial results showed that he has been elected as chairman of the United National Congress (UNC) in the party's internal election.
He said this is a victory for the people. "The people have spoken," he said.
The Chaguanas West MP said he is humbled by the trust the people have placed in him and in Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who has been declared as political leader.
Warner paid tribute to UNC founder and outgoing political leader Basdeo Panday and sent a message to Panday that the UNC is in good hands. He thanked Panday for the work he has done and said he must now passed the mantle to the new leader.
He said the task of rebuilding the party begins now and he urged everyone to work together for the good of the party.
