Douglas wins reelection in St Kitts election

Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas led his ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) to an unprecedented fourth consecutive term in Monday's general election, comfortably winning his seat.

The party won six of the 11 seats in the legislature, barely getting a majority.
It had seven seats in the previous Parliament.

The leader of the main opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) Lindsay Grant, lost his seat.

PAM’s deputy leader, Shawn Richards, was one of two PAM candidates to win seats.

The government declared a holiday Tuesday to celebrate its victory.

The campaign was one of the most intense in recent history with reports of violence from both camps.

Prime Minister Douglas urged the population to “respect the choice of the people and let the country settle down” adding “let us begin today the healing process”. He praised the youth, saying “you gave us the energy”.

But the opposition is not pleased with the result and has threatened to challenge it.
