Of all the tasks that I have completed over the past year, this is the most pleasurable because it allows me to reflect on all that we have accomplished together, which conjures up images of a hardworking and committed community of believers who selflessly continue to fight to make a change for the good of this nation.
There is no doubt that 2009 was a tough year; we faced unprecedented challenges and threats to our unity but we have survived because together we remained committed to the agenda upon which I was elected into office; an agenda that demanded transparency, accountability and good governance, and it was that commitment that brought us through.
For that, I am grateful.
However, I am mindful that this journey is not over; it has only just begun. I am reminded everyday of the need to keep focused for there is a threat to civility as we know it, to democracy as we have been schooled and to social decency of which we were once accustomed.
So while I extend greetings, wishing you a Merry Christmas, I know the unfolding of gifts for us will only have meaning when we secure victory on January 25, 2010 after the results of the UNC internal elections have been announced.
We will overcome all plots. We will overcome all character assassination, all deals, all legal threats, whether real or imagined.
And we shall overcome, together.
This victory will signal the changing of the guards, the retiring of the old order and the installation of the new.
Let me therefore again say thanks for your commitment and support and wish you a Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year as we move with one accord towards achieving this all important milestone.
