Kamla leads the pack in unofficial online poll

An unofficial and unscientific online poll seeking to gauge opinion on a new leader for Trinidad and Tobago suggests that the runaway leader is Siparia MP Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The poll lists 13 people including United National Congress (UNC) leader Basdeo Panday, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner, Congress of the People (COP) leader Winston Dookeran, COP deputy leader Prakash Ramadhar, prominent San Fernando lawyer Anand Ramlogan and Chief Justice Ivor Archie.

Surprisingly, it leaves out
Tabaquite MP Ramesh L. Maharaj, who is so far the only person challenging Panday for the leadership of the UNC but it includes NJAC leader Makandal Daaga and former PNM cabinet minister, Dr Keith Rowley. It has an option for "none of the above".

The poll asks a simple question: "After Manning, who?"

The blog titled PNM4ever is open for the next nine days, closing on December 18.

The initial results show Persad-Bissessar way ahead of everyone with 84 per cent support. Panday has 8 per cent.

Some others:
  • Ivor Archie - 46
  • Anand Ramlogan - 42
  • Jack Warner - 40
  • Gavin Nicholas - 22
  • Stephen Cadiz - 14
  • Winston Dookeran - 12
The others are in single digits. Since the poll is an interactive online one, these numbers can change and fluctuate by the minute.
