Mayaro MP Winston ’Gypsy’ Peters fears that there is a plot by the certain members of the United National Congress to rig the party's internal election on January 24, 2010.Peters spoke with reporters at the Red House Friday and showed them a list of all 4,896 UNC members from his constituency and charged that all the telephone numbers for supporters were deliberately erased.
He produced similar lists for Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday’s Couva North constituency, as Panday's brother's Princes Town constituency, where all the information was clearly visible.
On Thursday, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner revealed that he had obtained the full UNC list of some 130,000-plus members from an unnamed source.
Warner told supporters he is hiring 50 people to call every member and urge them to vote for change.
Peters told reporters that presents a problem in his constituency since he has no telephone information for anyone.
He said UNC membership chairman Kelvin Ramnath has promised to look into the problem.
