Blogger, researcher Richard William Thomas has completed detailed research on the ethnic balance in the 18 top public sector corporations of Trinidad and Tobago and has found a glaring disparity.
Richard found that of the 295 top positions in the 18 corporations 235 are held by non-Indians and only 60 by Indians.
Thomas began his project because he wanted to know whether "in a country such as Trinidad and Tobago, where the sisters and brothers of the Indian Diaspora are either in the majority, or very close to the majority of the population - 43% - such awesome presence is not reflected in the composition of those entities?
"So curious was I, that I mused, "Richard! Why not do some research to satisfy it?" It took less than two hours navigation of the Internet to come up with the following data regarding eighteen top state-owned entities.
"Regardless of your political persuasion, you'd be as shocked as I was for the realities encountered. Here goes!..."
For the full report including charts and diagrams please read: Too few Indian Chiefs! on Richard's blog.
Footnote: The Indo Trinbago Equality Council (ITEC) is using Richard's information to launch a formal complaint with Trinidad and Tobago's Equal Opportunities Commission. ITEC President Devant Maharaj wrote Richard about the matter:
Here's his note:
"Dear Sir,
I got a copy of your research on the representation of Indians in State Boards and was very impressed. Subsequently I used the same material [crediting your name of course] in a formal complaint with the Equal Opportunities Commission..."
