Warner hands out cheques for school books, urges students to seek excellence

Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner delivered some unexpected surprises Wednesday to the four top students of the the Chaguanas Government Primary School.

In the SEA results announced last week the school secured more places in the top 200 than any other school in Trinidad and Tobago. The boys were also the top performers
in the National Financial Literacy program.

Warner gave each of the four boys a cheque for an undisclosed sum of money and urged them to use the money to buy books for the new school term.

“I see this reward today as an investment into the lives of these four young men...These men and women are our future and I am honoured to meet with them today,” Warner said.

Earlier, Warner delivered the feature address at the graduation ceremony of the Vishnu Boy’s High School in his constituency. He urged the forms five and six students to "rise above your adversities, face you challenges head on, continue on your quest for excellence and you will succeed.”

Warner tossed out his prepared speech and talked about his life.

He told a story about a boy who walked six miles a day to go to school, "a boy who was born in a rural community in South Trinidad, a boy who leaned to cut cane and plant rice, a boy who spent all of his high school life with one pair of pants, but who today has risen above all adversity.”
