Two UNC councillors teamed up with PNM members Monday and voted out alderman Dr. Surujrattan Rambachan as mayor of Chaguanas. The two are supporters of the Platform for Change in the UNC, led by Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner and his colleagues Ramesh L. Maharaj and Winston "Gypsy" Peters.
By voting to rescind Rambachan's appointment as an alderman the majority of councillors have stripped him of his standing and disqualified him from being mayor.
The Chaguanas Borough subsequently voted in its first female mayor, Natasha Navas, 30, from Felicity, who will be sworn-in on Thursday. (Photo below). Rambachan shook hands with his successor and wished her well.
Navas is a marketing specialist with the state-owned First Citizens' Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (FCB).
Warner, in his capacity as MP for Chaguanas West, admitted that Rambachan caused his own downfall by his "arrogant ways".
The move is expected to increase the tension in the opposition party, since Rambachan is a staunch supporter of UNC Leader Basdeo Panday and has been a vocal critic of Warner's initiative to demand change in the party.Rambachan called Monday's development a "coup". He said the move won't stop him from continuing to serve his party.

Very interesting that both PNM and UNC politicians ousted this person. Without knowing anything about the Mayor I can't comment on if this is good or bad, but it is perhaps encouraging to see bipartisan cooperation on something.
A "coup"? But...but...but? Didn't his term as alderman come to an end, hence the need for a new vote?
