Former UNC MPs threaten to sue Ramesh

Three former UNC MP's have threatened to take Tabquite MP Ramesh L. Maharaj to court over statements he has made about payments of salaries to opposition Members of Parliament during the period when there was an 18-18 tie in the House of Representatives and the government refused to pay opposition members.

Attorney Robin Montano - who is a former UNC Senator - has sent Maharaj a pre-action protocol letter giving him 14 days to publicly apologizse for stating that the MPs received the money from Jack Warner and have not repaid it.

The letter on behalf of Gerald Yetming, Ganga Singh and Manohar Ramsaran points to a meeting at Freeport on May at which Maharaj allegedly made the defamatory statements.

The three ormer MPs claim Maharaj has defamed them and are asking for a public apology, which must be approved by the three men. If Maharaj doesn't do as requested then he will be sued for defamation, Montano said.

Maharaj has confirmed that he received the letter and intends to reply.
