Two gunmen shot a killed a businessman in cold blood at the Carlton Centre in San Fernando Monday, robbed him of $30,000 and ran away while horrified witnesses watched. It happened outside the Royal Bank at 8.15 in the morning at the usually bustling shopping centre.
It was the second time gunmen had attacked and robbed Wimbally Bhadai at the same bank. Bhadai had gone to the bank to deposit money earned from weekend sales from his gas station auto spare parts business in Barrackpore.
His attackers shot him twice in the chest. He died on the way to the San Fernando General Hospital.
Many witnesses were too terrified to talk. But one of them told the Trinidad Express he heard two shots and saw two unmasked fleeing the scene as a crowd began gathering. He said he saw Bhadai on the ground and called emergency services. The paper said the man asked not to be identified for fear of the killers coming after him.
A mall spokesperson said a closed circuit camera near the bank did not get a clear picture of the killers.
