Members of the party’s National Executive (NATEX), several senators and MPs, Local Government representatives and several party officials attended the event.
Acting chair of the UNC, Khadijah Ameen, informed the packed auditorium that its last meeting on February 5, 2014 NATEX mandated constituency executives throughout the country to continue to register new party groups and the further advised that the Political Leader will be officially swearing in these groups beginning in St. Joseph.
UNC St Joseph Constituency caretaker Senator Ganga Singh urged party members and officials to return St. Joseph to the UNC in the next general election. He said the formation of 25 party groups is an indication of the tremendous ground the UNC has recovered in St. Joseph. He paid tribute to several stalwart ‘soldiers’ who have been with the party from its inception and whose support remained steadfast over the years. Senator Singh also welcomed several young people from non traditional UNC areas who have ‘joined the army’.
Political Leader and Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar reminded the gathering of the achievements of the partnership government and the failings of the opposition, whose members have relied on lies and vicious attacks to compensate for their lack of co-ordination. She made it clear that unlike other parties, the UNC is driven by “service, delivery and keeping our promises to make our country an even greater one.”
She said, “They cannot beat us on performance and delivery. They cannot beat us on commitment to our country. They cannot beat us in economic management. And they certainly cannot beat us in running our country!”
