Both men discussed Security Council reform, Trinidad and Tobago's new global engagement thrust, coordinating United Nations Agencies in Port of Spain, the establishment of a School of Global Diplomacy within the University of the West Indies’ Institute of International Relations and the post 2015 Development Agenda.
Ambassador Ashe served for many years as the Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations and Ambassador to the World Trade Organization.
He also chaired the Executive Boards of United Nations Funds, the Fifth Committee and the Commission on Sustainable Development. His tenure as President of the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly begins in September this year.
Dookeran was on a one-day visit at the United Nations where he held discussions on a range of bilateral and global issues with Permanent Representatives from Australia, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.
Prior to his UN visit, the minister was an official guest to the Governments of Singapore and South Korea to advance T&T's national agenda.
