In a speech in which she announced several government initiatives Persad-Bissessar urged constituents of Chaguanas West to support the UNC. She said the People's Partnership is determined to keep its 29 seats in Parliament and that means Chaguanas West must be returned to the UNC.
She asked supporters to reject the opposition People's National Movement (PNM) and tell them the constituency already has the best representation. She said the only way for all the development in Chaguanas West and other regions to continue is to ensure that the party and the partnership remain strong and remain in government.
She noted a comment by PNM chairman Franklin Khan that the party won't win the seat. She cautioned supporters about that, saying it is a PNM trick to make people let their guard down and become complacent.
Earlier in the meeting Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh said the PNM is so out of touch with what is going on it has set up the campaign office for the Chaguanas West byelection in Couva South. He called on the PNM to get its geography right.
