Letter: Roget's pappyshow

After the rally, workers were treated to a cultural show.

With those ten words, Radhica Sooraj rounded off "Mass March on July 5", her offering that headlines today's (Thursday) Guardian.

It was a very apt closing comment since the rally itself wasn't about trade unionism—based on what was reported, the entire occasion was a show...a pappyshow, to be precise.

Instead of lauding Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's deft and amicable settlement of all inherited, outstanding public sector negotiations—many of which had lagged because of trade union tardiness or recalcitrance—Mr Roget and his colleagues undertook to bait and switch the 2013 Labour Day celebrations into a fire and brimstone CPR exercise aimed at breathing life into their own flagging political ambitions.

Their routine was successful. But, the patient died.

No worthwhile use saying much more...castigating some of these labour leaders is no different to flogging a dead horse.
