Busy schedule for Biden; U.S. VP arrives Monday evening

The Vice-President of the United States of America, the Honourable Joseph Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will be visiting Trinidad and Tobago from 27 May 2013 to 28 May 2013 as a guest of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago has graciously agreed to use the opportunity of the Vice President’s visit to facilitate her colleague Heads of State and Government from CARICOM as well as the Dominican Republic. 


They will engage in discussions on matters related to, inter alia, regional security, trade, human and social development, and energy with Vice-President Biden.It is anticipated that this meeting with the Vice-President may serve to lay the groundwork for robust cooperation during the Administration's second term .

Vice President Biden and his delegation will arrive at Piarco International Airport on Monday evening and will be welcomed by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Winston Dookeran on behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago. The Vice President would be invited to inspect a Guard of Honour, following which the Prime Minister would introduce him to members of Cabinet and other officials.

Mr. Biden and his spouse will pay a courtesy call on Their Excellencies, Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona S.C., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and the First Lady, Mrs Reema Carmona, on Tuesday, 27 May, 2013, following which they will leave for meetings at the Diplomatic Centre.

Prime Minister Persad Bissessar and Vice President Biden will meet privately for bilateral discussions before the Multilateral Meeting between Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and of the Dominican Republic and the Vice President.

The Honourable Prime Minister will host a luncheon for the visiting delegations at the Diplomatic Centre after which there will be a Media Conference beginning at 2:15 p.m. His Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly, President of the Republic of Haiti and CARICOM Chairman would also address the media.

Vice-President Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will depart Trinidad and Tobago later on Tuesday afternoon.
