The Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th March, 2013, will host the Launch of a Regional Study on Information Communication Study (ICT) in Agricultural Value Chain at the Capital Plaza, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

CARDI, in collaboration with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation, CTA (based in the Netherlands) commissioned the Regional Study to better understand the present use of ICTs in agricultural value chains in the Caribbean and to identify and contribute to the adaptation of innovative ICT models, projects and recommendations to meet stakeholders’ needs.

While the Study has a regional outlook, surveys will be conducted in the value chains related to roots and tubers and small ruminants in Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Regional Study, which will be executed by a Consultant Team with expertise in the fields of ICT and value chains, will take place during the period March 2013 to September 2013.

Successful execution of this Study will result in a documented environmental scan of regional ICT usage in agricultural value chains including critical analyses and recommendations which will facilitate the improved understanding of ICT opportunities, uses, skills and capacity needs.

The Launch will include a Consultants’ Briefing at which invited stakeholders from the target countries (Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago) will meet with the consultants and assist in the development of the implementation plan.
