Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayres-Caesar on Tuesday fined Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne $30,000 for broadcasting a video on three separate occasions in October of 2011 of the rape of a 13-year-old girl. If he fails to pay the fine the alternative is 72 months in prison.

Alleyne's lawyer, Om Lalla, had asked the magistrate not to fine or jail Alleyne, stating that Alleyne did not act with malicious intent. He said his client was seeking justice for the victim.
Lalla also submitted that jailing Alleyne would be a severe form of punishment since it would deprive Alleyne of the opportunity to travel to the United States to visit his family who are living there.
State Prosecutor George Busby disagreed and stated that Alleyne caused mental torture to the victim.
CNN TV6 is facing the same three charges and six additional charges contrary to the Telecommunications Act. The company has pleaded not guilty pleas on all nine charges.
