Media reports in Trinidad say a 28-year-old woman has died at a private hospital in San Fernando after she gave birth to a baby girl by Caesarean section. Sasha Bisnath was a mother of two.
Damien Bisnath wants an investigation into his wife’s death. He had already spoken to his family’s attorney and is considering legal action against the medical centre. The cost of the operation at the private facility was $21,000.
A similar case was reported last year at the San Fernando General Hospital, which led to the suspension of medical personnel.

She had her third baby on Thursday at the private institution, which the media reports did not identify, and died the next day at the Intensive Care Unit of the San Fernando General Hospital.
A relative told journalists there was a lot of blood on the bed when members of the family visited Sasha following the operation. Shortly after Sasha began trembling and lost consciousness. An hour later the gynaecologist who performed the operation suggested a second surgery be done.
At that point the family insisted on transferring the woman to the San Fernando General Hospital. The reports say at that time two and a half pints of blood had accumulated in the woman's stomach. Before it could be drained, Sasha's kidney failed and she died at around 8.15 pm, the reports state.

An autopsy showed that death was due to Disseminating Intra-vascular Coagulation (DIC), a condition that leads to the formation of small blood clots inside the blood vessels throughout the body. This condition disrupts normal clotting is causes abnormal bleeding from the surgical wound.
Bisnath's husband believes there was negligence and suggested to media that medical personnel may have cut an artery before stitching his wife's wound. He stated that it took two hours for nurses to attend to his wife after the excessive bleeding was noticed and another half hour for the doctor to arrive.
