Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams said on Wednesday there was a drop in homicides over the last four months and that the correct figure to date is 368, not the 405 as stated by Opposition Leader, Dr Keith Rowley.
Williams said Rowley may have been "misinformed". He said from January to August there was an average of 35 murders every month. However since September the rate has dropped to 28.
The police chief admitted that the figure is too high but said there has been progress in the fight against violent crime.
He noted that "a small geographical space" in Trinidad and Tobago is responsible for an, "extremely large percentage of violent crimes from a policing perspective and it is critical for us to focus on this small geographical space to make a difference on the national average."
