The Integrity Commission has received a compliant about the purchase of a parcel of land by the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) from Dankett Ltd. and the lease of the land to Milshirv Properties Limited.
The complaint raises questions about the transaction and asks the commission to investigate if there has been any breach of the Integrity in Public Life bill.
The complaint was submitted by Sunil Ramjitsingh on 18 September 2012. He received an acknowledgement on October 5 from the Commission's Registrate, Martin Farrell, stating that the matter "will be submitted for the attention of the Integrity Commission."
The Mishirv deal has become a highly controversial one. Finance Minister Larry Howai has asked the THA to submit all relevent documents about it to determine if any laws were broken. THA Chief secretary has stated that everything was above board in the deal.
However, Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar has suggested that it was a sweetheart deal between the THA, which is controlled by the People's National Movement (PNM) and members of the family of former PNM cabinet minister John Rahael.
