Donna Cox is facing a challenge to her leadership as the lady vice chairman of the People's National Movement.
It's coming from former Arima MP Pennelope Beckles-Robinson, who has submitted a nomination for the post. The PNM's executive election takes place on October 28.
Beckles-Robinson ran for the post of chairman in last internal election but lost to Franklin Khan. Cox didn't comment directly on the matter when approached by the Guardian newspaper. "I’m focusing on my budget debate reply for now but I will comment later on,” the paper quoted her as saying. It said Beckles-Robinson also said she would speak on the matter at a later date.
Former Fatima College principal and former T&T Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) head, Anthony Garcia, is contesting the post of education officer.
Garcia, who has co-ordinated several PNM East-West Corridor seats for the general election, is the lone PNM councillor on the Arima Borough Corporation. He was recently appointed to head the PNM’s party school, the Eric Williams Institute, the Guardian reported.
