Caribbean Airlines would have the name of Keshorn Walcott on one of its 737 Boeing aircraft by the end of the week. That's the word from CAL chairman Rabindra Moonan who also told local media Tuesday the airline will give Caribbean Miles to all the Olympic Athletes.
On Monday, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced that Walcott would have a CAL jet named after him in recognition of Walcott's Gold medal performance at the 2012 London Olympics last Saturday.
Walcott, 19, won the top prize in the javelin event, giving Trinidad & Tobagio its first Olympic Gold medal since Hasely Crawford's gold at the Montreal Games in 1976. The country won four medals - one Gold and three Bronze - in London, its best showing ever at an Olympic Games.
Moonan said the airline has decided to name a 737 after Walcott to give maximum exposure to the young athlete. "That aircraft is used to service the Caribbean and North American route so we expect the widest exposure of this really talented son of the soil," he said.
He also explained what CAL intends to do for the other athletes."We at Caribbean Airlines will afford them miles, Caribbean miles," he said. "We are now working out the details for our Gold Medal winner and our Bronze Medal winners. So in due course we will make an announcement to really recognise and reward our heroes in this country," Moonan added.
