At 11 a.m. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Isaac was moving west at 21 mph with maximum winds of 45 mph and the latest advisory indicated that Isaac was expected to become a hurricane later today.
According to the latest forecast models from the hurrican centre, Puerto Rico, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and the US and British Virgin Islands could also experience heavy flooding, mudslides and rainfall.
"At 11 a.m AST the center of Tropical Storm Isaac was located near latitude 15.9 N longitude 59.3 W or 140 miles east of Guadeloupe" the report said.
The NHC report said that hurricane watches are in effect for Puerto Rico, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic.
Isaac is the ninth tropical storm of the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane season.
Even as Isaac begins to impact the Lesser Antilles another tropical depression has formed in the Atlantic and forecasters say it has a 100% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours.
The hurricane center said the latest tropical depression is “located at 12.4 N 36.3 W or about 860 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde islands”.
“Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph and the system is moving west-northwest at 16 mph and this general motion is expected to continue during the next couple of days” the report said.
Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and the depression is forecast to become a tropical storm later Wednesday.
