Bovell falls back, places 7th at London Olympics

George Bovell did his best but didn't capture the Gold Medal as expected in the 50M Men's Freestyle at the London Olympics Friday. He placed 7th. However Acting Sports Minister Jack Warner still extended his congratulations to the 29-year-old swimmer.

In a statement shortly after the race, Warner said "life does not require that we be the best, only that we try our best."

He added that Bovell has already done his country proud by bringing home the bronze medal from the 2004 Olympics. This is Bovell's fourth Olympics. He made it to the final with an impressive time of 21.77 seconds.
Warner said Trinidad & Tobago must salute Bovell for his efforts, courage and his determination. He added that it is by no means a trivial thing to have made it so far.

"Good job! We love you and we are proud," he said. "You have flown the flag of Trinidad and Tobago high and brought us pride. We look forward to more great things from you in the future."
