Ramlogan sues Rowley

A report in the Trinidad Express says Attorney General Anand Ramlogan is taking legal action against Opposition leader Keith Rowley, claiming Rowley made defamatory remarks against him last year with respect to comments Rowley made about the extradition matter of businessmen Ish Galbaransingh and Steve Ferguson.

Attorneys Christlyn Moore and Gerald Ramdeen filed the lawsuit on behalf of Ramlogan, the paper states.

The attorneys claim that Rowley's comments "could have been understood to imply Ramlogan made "improper political promises" to Ferguson and Galbaransingh and had caused or orchestrated the warrant of surrender made against them to be quashed by Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh, who determined the matter", the Expresss says.

It adds, "The lawyers added Rowley's remarks could have been interpreted to mean that Ramlogan, as defendant in the extradition proceedings, had so manipulated the judicial process that the extradition orders were quashed."

The attorneys are claiming compensation for slander and other costs the court might deem fit.
