Couva south MP Rudranath Indarinsgh will receive the body of his political predecessor, Kelvin Ramnath, at the constituency office in Couva just before eight Wednesday morning.
Ramnath died on Saturday of a heart attack. He was 63.
There would be a public viewing of the body from 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning at the constituency office, following which the body would be taken to the Arunodai Presbyterian Church, Main Road, Balmain Village, Couva for the funeral service, beginning at 10.
The body would later be cremated at the Yankeran Cremation Site at Waterloo Bay at 2 in the afternoon.
Ramnath is a founding member of the United National Congress (UNC) and served as in the Robinson NAR cabinet from 1986-1988 when he left the NAR with former PM Basdeo Panday and a few Panday loyalists following major disagreements with Prime Minister ANR Robinson.
Ramnath was first elected to Parliament in 1976 as the MP for Couva South as a member of the United Labour Front. He was re-elected in 1981, 1986 and 1991. He did not contest the 1995 and 2000 elections due to strained relations with Panday. However, Panday brought him back to Couva South in 2001, winning the seat in general elections of that year. He was re-elected in 2002 and again in 2007. He did not contest the 2010 election.
At the time of his death he was chairman of the Environmental Management Authority (EMA).
