Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Tuesday made minor adjustments to the Finance Ministry, adding two junior ministers.
Vasant Bharath is one of the Ministers in the Ministry of Finance in addition to his current position as Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment. The other minister is Rudranath Indarsingh who will be a Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the Economy.
Both appointments are with immediate effect.
Each of the men brings special talent. Bharath is a financial expert with private sector experience and Indarsingh has a strong labour background.
Bharath told the Guardian he is looking forward to his additional responsibilities. “There are many areas where we will need to work together to to kickstart the economy, to undertake Customs reform, deal with the issue of VAT returns and other issues, so there will be several synergies between the ministries," he said.
Indarsingh told the paper he expects his labour background to assist the Finance Ministry’s planning to ensure issues of interest to workers are represented in national development.
