Letter: Ganging up on Jack won't end crime

The flurry of anti-Jack comments reminds me of the proverbial Jep Nest -when Jack Spaniards perceive you to be a threat, the entire nest swoops out at you.
Honourable Jack Warner was just recently given the arduous task of administering the Ministry of National Security. The hapless public, long-accustomed to that Ministry being the most frontline in the crimefighting phalanx of every government, consequently believe the Ministry of National Security, BY ITSELF, has what it takes to eradicate crime and, in particular, substantially dent the murder rate.

But, the public is wrong...very wrong...on that score. The business of crime prevention and control involves several agencies of the State, each of which is a component of the whole effort.

The foundational element is the family unit -charity begins at home, therefore, hatred there also does. When the foundation is well-ordered and maintained, the superstructure follows suit.

It is up to traditional institutions (religious bodies, schools and leadership-instilling NGOs [Scouts, Cadets, 4-H Clubs]) to take and sustain the lead regarding laying a proper social foundation. Sometimes we refer to that as: "It takes a village to raise a child!", or as: "Shaping the concrete when it's wet!".

The superstructure may be described as the adult society, which, like bricks in a building, if not properly cemented, will come loose, crumble and partly or wholly compromise the integrity of everything for a generation, or more.

The cement required by the superstructure would be multi-faceted -comprising palpable and intangible creature comforts, such as: dignified work, affordable and comfortable housing (with attendant utilities), affordable and nutritious food, adequate and wholesome health services and leisure time and confidence that retirement years won't mean a diminishing in the quality of life.

Inescapably, the superstructure would require prompt attention and corrective/reparatory action if the odd block becomes loose or erratic. Enter the police, the prosecutorial system, the courts, the penal system AND the rehabilitation system. The latter I paradoxically consider to be distinct from the penal system, for it's an integral part of same.

The long and short is, no Crime-Reduction Plan will work unless like the nowadays Carnival Band, it is all-inclusive. Having seen what the Honourable Minister of National Security has thus far done and with whom he has thus far met, I am confident his promised plan has embraced all such things, thus will silence the few nay-saying Hydras baying for his head. (I refer to them as Hydras, for, in fact, many of them have a wardrobe full of disguises which they employ online or in other places to vent their anti-PP putrefaction).

We have seen how when the Honourable Jack Warner was Minister responsible for Traffic Management, he pragmatically reached out to his sworn enemies so as to devise and implement a holistic clear-the-traffic-logjam plan for St. James and Woodbrook.

It's real doltish for anyone to believe, now that he's overseeing National Security, he won't apply the same philosophy to remove every hurdle preventing all anti-crime State agencies from working in harmonious symphony.

Doh study them, Jack! We put you there and didn't put them back, because we know what you can do and we know what they couldn't do!
