Anil Roberts: "I remain a member of the COP" |
Vernon De Lima told the Express newspaper Sunday, Roberts is not a member of the party anymore, adding that "as far as I am concerned, he has defected. We haven't seen him in over a year. I don't consider him a member of the party any longer, I don't think he considers himself a member of the party."
De Lima added, "Every action of his points to that conclusion, he really should break the surface and do the honourable thing and stop pretending."

Roberts has been a vocal critics of his own party and its leader, Prakash Ramadhar. He called on Ramadhar to show leadership during the recent impasse with members of the governing coalition. And last week he wondered why Ramadhar was silent on the matter of the demolition of the Highway Re-Route camp.
The COP issued a statement by deputy political leader Dr Anirudh Mahabir on the day the camp was wrecked by soldiers expressing concern that Minister of National Security Jack Warner and his junior minister, Collin Partap, were present when the camp was pulled down.
The Express said it contacted Mahabir for a comment based on what De Lima stated. However it said he declined further comment.
For his part, Roberts told the Express he remains a member of the COP, noting that he joined the party before De Lima. He accused De Lima of holding a personal grouse because when COP recommended him in 2010 to be National Security Minister the Prime Minister rejected it.
"I am a member of the Congress of the People since before him, I remain a member who beat him in the leadership election, let us deal with the issues of governance and not be side-tracked by loose canons," said Roberts.
Roberts also stated that he is an elected Member of Parliament and suggested that the COP "must save itself" from certain members who are "erratic" and self serving.
