New ministers take oath of office

PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar with members of her new cabinet
Four new members of Cabinet took their oaths of office Monday - Jamal Mohammed, Ganga Singh, Larry Howai and Marlene Coudray. All but one of them are rookies. Singh has served as a cabinet minister in the Panday UNC administration. He will be the Minister of Environment and Water Resources, a new ministry.

Mohammed is the Communications Minister. This is also a new ministry. When Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar took office in 2010 Communications remained within her office with two junior minister - Rodger Samuel and Colin Partap - having responsibility for communication. In her first cabinet shuffle one year ago she moved Communication to the Foreign Ministry as part of the portfolio of Dr Suruj Rambachan.

Howai has taken over the Ministry of Finance and Economy from Winston Dookeran who served in that position for two years, bringing stability to the economy and trying to settle several economic crises.

Coudray has taken over Gender, Youth and Child Development. She leaves the post of Mayor of San Fernando.

Also taking an oath was La Horquetta/Talparo MP Jairam Seemungal, who is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Food Production. He was Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
