People Minister Glenn Ramadharsingh said Thursday government is strengthening the social displacement laws to give agencies greater authority to take homeless people off the streets.
Ramadharsingh said about 51,000 people are eligible for the concessions. He said in order to ensure that there is equitable distribution of the benefits government would place a specific office in each constituency for the differently-abled to access for help.
Speaking at the post cabinet briefing Ramadharsingh cabinet will soon have an action plan to deal with the increase in homeless people. Several ministries would be involved in the plan, he explained.
The minister also stated that government would unveil by mid-July certain concessions for differently-abled people. These would include food cards and free bus passes as well as $5,000 scholarships.
