Prakash confirms COP will attend PP rally, says "party is in "for the long haul"

Congress of the People (COP) political leader Prakash Ramadhar confirmed on Saturday that his party will attend the People’s Partnership rally in Chaguanas on Thursday.
COP leader Prakash Ramadhar: "We will be there..."
He spoke with reporters following a strategy meeting with party members at San Salvador Estate in Gran Couva. Ramadhar said he has "something special to say" at the rally.

COP chairman Joseph Toney had previously stated that Ramadhar would attend and that he would have a special message.

However Toney suggested that a 'celebration' was inappropriate. That's the same view expressed by David Abdulah, the leader of the Movement for Social Justice.

Ramadhar had his own take on the event. He said, “Some say it’s a celebration, some say it is a reflection, some say it is marking the anniversary. We will be there because we are part of the People’s Partnership government and we are there to give support for the things that are right and fix the things that are wrong.”

He also made it clear to reporters that while COP is a democratic party only he and the chairman are authorised to speak on behalf of the party.

Ramadhar made it clear the COP is "in for the long haul." That is not what many COP members are saying. Some of them as well as some officials of the party plan to stay away from Thursday's event in Chaguanas.
