Calder Hart says he's not guilty.
That's what the lawyer for the former executive chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad & Tobago (UDeCOTT) said in a legal letter dated November 12, 2011.
The letter was in response to one dated October 17, 2011 from attorney Christlyn Moore acting on behalf of UDeCOTT. The pre-action protocol letter sent to Hart's local and Florida addresses threatened action against him with respect to breach "of his fiduciary duty" in the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) and the Legal Affairs Tower projects.
In his response Hart dismissed the allegations.
"Throughout your letter there are suggestions and insinuations of dishonesty and corruption. I categorically deny that I ever acted either dishonestly or corruptly in the discharge of my duties at UdeCOTT," Hart stated in response to Moore's legal letter.
He said he was unable to respond to these claims because he did not have access to any documents. He said he handed over all UDeCOTT documents that were in his possession.
"Obviously, therefore, I am not in a position to give a considered response to your allegations, and in the circumstances must request that you provide me with copies of all the documents upon which you rely for support of your allegations," Hart's letter stated.
He said if he had the documents and an opportunity to review them with the help of professional advice he would formally respond to the legal threat.
He cautioned UDeCOTT about taking further action. "I would not in the circumstances expect you to take any further steps until I have had a fair chance to evaluate your claims."
