Warner unhappy with MSJ leader's support for Highway Re-route Movement

File: Jack Warner
Jack Warner is not pleased that a leader of one of the members of the People's Partnership is apparently supporting people who are trying to scuttle work on the multi-billion dollar highway to Point Fortin.

The Minister of Works and Infrastructure said on Friday he was disappointed to learn from media reports that Movement for Social Justice (MSJ) Leader David Abdullah is supporting the Highway Re-route movement.

The group, which is led by environmental activist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh, wants the government to change the route of the highway at Mon Desir in Debe. Earlier in the week activists stopped work on the highway project for a few hours when they blocked heavy equipment on the work site.

Warner said he would have preferred if Abdulah had asked him about the Ministry's plans to build the Highway.

"I'm a bit disappointed that he didn't see it fit to even talk to me or the Ministry and to rush and go public with this," Warner said.

"This is the whole problem in this country you know. People rush to go public to get all kinds of media blessing and so on. In the end, they end up doing damage to themselves and to the idea. I have not seen it but I heard about it and I think it is unfortunate."

Warner said he feels Abdulah's action is not in keeping with the spirit of the governing coalition.
