PM Kamla riding high in polls; PP can win majority if election held now


A poll conducted for the Sunday Guardian suggests that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar continues to have the support of a majority of citizens. It also concludes that if a general election were held now the People's Partnership would regain its majority.

According to the data collected and analysed by the ANSA McAL Psychological Research Centre at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine 42 per cent rated the PM's performance as "excellent" and "good" with only 13 per cent rating her as "poor".

The centre interviewed 512 people 18 and over between March 9 and 12, asking the question: How do you rate the performance of the Prime Minister to date? 
The result is listed below:
  • Excellent - 11%
  • Good - 31%
  • Fair - 42%
  • Poor - 13%
  • Extremely Poor - 3%
A summary of the other results also suggest the government remains popular.
Question: Overall, how do you rate the performance of the Government to date?

  • Excellent - 4%
  • Good - 30%
  • Fair - 47%
  • Poor - 15%
  • Extremely Poor - 4%
Question: If a general election was held today, which political party would you vote for?

  • PP - 34%
  • PNM - 13%
  • NONE - 25%
  • DON’T KNOW - 19%
The poll also did a breakdown of individual parties, asking the same question:

  • UNC 5%
  • COP 3%
  • NAR 1%
  • MSJ 1%
  • NEW PARTY 1%
