Roodal Moonilal: "...you must come with clean hands.” |
Roodal Moonilal told Parliament Friday Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley used his former ministerial portfolio in the Manning People’s National Movement (PNM) administration to help give multi-million-dollar contracts to companies owned by the wives of PNM members Franklin Khan and Colm Imbert.
Moonilal, who is the leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives, was responding to the contribution by Rowley in the debate on the no confidence motion in Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar brought by Rowley.
The Housing minister said Rowley's hands are "unclean" and he is out of line to denounce the Prime Minister.
“When you come with a motion of no confidence for Siparia, you must come with clean hands,” Moonilal said.
Moonilal talked about a company called Vidara, which was formed in 2005 and whose director is Laura Khan—wife of PNM chairman Franklin Khan. He said Vidara received $60 million in contracts from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
He outlined some of the details:
He said that cannot happen under the watch of Persad-Bissessar. "If the Member of Siparia get wind of anything like that before $2 reach is shut down and back to the Attorney General," he said.
“This is the present chairman of the People’s National Movement who on TV talking more than all the elected people here,” he added.
Moonilal also had news about a company called Bolt. One of its directors is Susan Williams-Imbert, wife of the former Works Minister, Colm Imbert. The minister said Bolt received $15 million in contracts from the HDC.
Moonilal also disclosed that the ex campaign manager of former finance minister Karen Nunez-Tesheira, was hired as manager of the Piarco airport shops and failed to collect some $154 million in rent that was being owed.
