Photo story: Expanding quarry hurting ecosystem

The Scott Quarry, which has been leased to Sunway International, which was connected to the former executive Chairman of UDeCOTT, Calder Hart.

The previous Manning PNM government guaranteed Sunway that it would pay for aggregate coming out of this quarry regardless of whether or not it was needed. In addition it took quarries out of the jurisdiction of the Environmental Management Authority (EMA).

The quarry began expanding after National Quarries Limited complained of sub standard aggregate coming from the quarry. The expansion is affecting the world renown Asa Wright Nature Centre.
