The opposition New Democrats (NDP) in Canada on Saturday elected Thomas Mulcair as its new leader. And Muclair immediately ruled out co-operating with the Liberals in the next election or merging the two parties.
"It's absolutely not in the cards," Mulcair said late Saturday night in a response to a question from CBC's Peter Mansbridge.
Mulcair defeated Brian Topp in a fourth-round ballot to become the new leader of the NDP and the head of the Official Opposition. He plans to get to work immediately.
