PM Kamla calls troops together to plan strategy for no confidence motion

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar gathered her loyal troops at her private residence on Sunday to prepare for Friday's verbal battle in the House of Representatives when the Opposition no confidence motion comes up for debate.

It was the first of four meetings planned for this week to discuss strategy for the debate.

The team will meet again Tuesday in Couva South and on Wednesday a mass rally is planned for the Prime Minister’s Siparia constituency office. The next day the team will move into keith rowley's constituency for a meeting at the Diamond Vale Community Centre.

Foreign Affairs and Communications Minister Surajrattan Rambachan said Rowley should pay the ultimate price for his no-confidence motion and resign.

“Dr Rowley must be prepared to take the ultimate step because when he is defeated, in terms of this motion, he must resign as Opposition Leader in the Parliament,” Rambachan said.

“This is not just being defeated in the Parliament, but in the public glare also.”

Health Minister Fuad Khan agreed. “When somebody brings a motion of no confidence against a Prime Minister, it is a serious constitutional motion and if it is defeated, the person who brings the motion should resign because he has now embarrassed his party,” Khan said.
